Gimmicks

Wizard or higher quests always have at least one gimmick, which is a hazard of some kind that hinders the player.

A particular quest's list of gimmicks can be found in the stage information (ステージ情報), which is accessible by tapping on the icon to the left of the quest's name.

The most common gimmicks are obstacles, virus, damage panels, hacking, and panel protect.

邪魔パネル Obstruction Panel

Only breakable by units with obstacle break (お邪魔ブレイク).

Also breakable by lasers (レーザー).

ウィルス Virus

Deals a specific amount of damage to infected units at the end of every turn until the virus either expires or is removed.

Units who have virus immunity (ウィルス無効) are unaffected.

Usually, if a quest's main gimmick is virus, it will never expire, or it'll be frequently inflicted.

Virus damage is taken after end-of-turn healing effects occur.

Can be removed by some unit skills.

Also inflictable on enemy units.

ポイズンパネル Poison Panel

Poisons the front unit when broken. Poison damage functions similar to virus damage: a poisoned unit will take damage at the end of every turn. However, unlike virus, the amount of damage taken depends on how many poison panels were broken. The more panels you break, the more damage you will take every turn.

Poison panels do not add to the attack count and won't deal any damage if you break them.

Units with poison break (ポイズンブレイク) can break the panels normally.

Poison is permanent and cannot be cured.

Poison damage is taken after end-of-turn healing effects occur.

All units with virus immunity also have poison break.

Can be safely broken by lasers.

ダメージパネル Damage Panel

Damage panels

Deal damage to your party when broken.

Can be safely broken by units with damage panel break (ダメージパネルブレイク).

Damage from damage panels is taken before end-of-turn healing effects occur.

Can be safely broken by lasers.

ハッキング Hacking

Prevents affected units from activating their unit skill, and from acting on their turn.

Units with hacking immunity (ハッキング無効) are unaffected.

Abilities still activate.

ハッキングパネル Hacking Panel

Decreases the number of taps you have left if broken by a unit without hacking immunity.

Hacking panels do not add to the attack count and won't deal any damage if you break them.

Can be safely broken by lasers.

Tap count is always decreased by 1, regardless of how many hacking panels you chained.

Taps are not lost permanently—they go back to normal on the next turn.

パネルプロテクト Panel Protect

Have to be tapped twice before they're broken.

Units with protect break (プロテクトブレイク) can break them normally.

Also breakable by lasers.

ワームパネル Worm Panel

Panels similar to time bombs that deal damage when the number on them reaches 0. However, worm panels can't be broken unless a unit has worm break, and they multiply at the beginning of every turn.

Damage from worm panels is taken before end-of-turn healing effects occur.

Also breakable by lasers.

アビリティバインド Ability Bind

Disables units's abilities.

スキルバインド Skill Bind

Prevents affected units from activating their unit skill.

カラーゲイン Color Gain

Yellow color gain, indicated by the purple boss icons. A yellow multi-chain is also in effect

Restores enemy HP when panels of a particular color are broken, and negates their damage.

Example: an enemy with red color gain will recover HP relative to how many red panels you break, and the red panels you broke won't deal any damage.

Multiple color gains can be in effect at once.

Bosses with color gain often exacerbate the effect by granting you a multi-chain (pictured), or by increasing the drop rate of the panels that they are gaining HP from. On quests like this, it's imperative to bring units who can also affect the drop rate or who can create lots of crash panels.

暗闇 Darkness

Darkness

Makes all panels silhouettes.

Can be removed by some unit skills.

時限式ダメージ Time Bomb lit. timed damage

Color panels that deal damage when their counter reaches 0.

Can't be broken unless they're chained to other non-time bomb panels.

Timed damage is taken before end-of-turn healing effects occur.

Also breakable by units with timed break (時限式ブレイク) and lasers.

ディメンションシールド Dimension Shield

The area behind a dimension shield can't be interacted with, and any panels in there can't be broken, even by bombs or lasers.

Often used in conjunction with time bombs.

Color break panels can break the panels behind dimension shields.

ロック Lock

Disables attribute or crash panels. Breaking them has no effect on you nor the enemy.

ロックパネル Lock Panel

A large color panel that doesn't go away until the number on it is reduced to 0. This can be done by chaining it with other panels or hitting it with bombs and lasers.

These are typically used against the player by having a boss absorb any locked panels onscren. The boss might increase their own stats or deal damage to your party relative to the number left on the panel when it was absorbed.

スリープ Sleep

Functionally identical to hacking.

This is an old effect that seems to have been entirely removed from gameplay. It's only used for narration during story quests nowadays.

Also inflictable on enemy units.
